Apparently, the Choco Taco was no match for a Klondike bar.

ice-cream brand behind the Choco Taco, has discontinued making the once-popular treat that resembles, well, a taco. A Klondike press representative explained it was all a matter of having to pick which novelty items deserved the most love.

“Over the past two years, we have experienced an unprecedented spike in demand across our portfolio and have had to make very tough decisions to ensure availability of our full portfolio nationwide,” the representative told MarketWatch. “A necessary but unfortunate part of this process is that we sometimes must discontinue products, even a beloved item like Choco Taco. We know this may be very disappointing, but we hope you’ll try one of our other great products, including Klondike Cones, Shakes, Sandwiches, and of course, our signature Bar available nationwide.”

Choco Taco fans have signaled their disappointment on social media.

The Choco Taco “was the bridge between ice cream and a far away place where ice cream had no rules, no regulations and no boring traditions of a scoop on a cone,” one fan tweeted.

Another fan summarized it in the simplest terms: “This is painful.”

Still, others said that the item had long lost its appeal. And they noted that despite all the nostalgic reverence for the Choco Taco, the treat wasn’t one that anybody seemed to eat anyore. One commenter asked, “When was the last time you had a Choco Taco?” and the answers ranged from “1996?” to “Probably 20 years ago.”

But if you’re truly desperate for a Choco Taco, which is basically a waffle cone refashioned as a taco shell and then filled with vanilla ice cream and toppings, you may have another option: A number of recipe sites have shared how to make a homemade version.
