Have you been thinking of writing a letter to grandma or grandpa to let them know you appreciate them or to say thank you for that gift they gave you?
If you’re thinking of writing that letter or note, following are some pointers for writing your letter:
- Make an attempt to do a hand-written letter, it means a lot to your grandparents to see your handwriting on paper.
- Use white or pastel colored paper. Avoid using neon colors as these colors are difficult to read from.
- Place your address on the left-hand corner of your letter so your grandma or grandpa won’t have to search for your address in their address book to respond to you.
- Include the date you wrote the letter, this is very important because it marks the date you wrote to them.
- Always open your letter with a pleasant salutation such as ‘Dear Grandma’ or ‘Dear Grandpa’.
- Write your message of appreciation or thank you note. This is called the body of your letter.
- Include a pleasant closing to your letter such as: Affectionately Yours, Fondly Yours, Love, Hugs and Kisses, With Care, Your Loving Grandson, Your Loving Granddaughter.
- Sign your name at the end of your letter.
- Proofread your letter for typos, additions, or corrections.

Dear Grandma,

The weather has been just beautiful out here and we’re all doing great. I hope grandpa is well, please give him my regards. How are those tomatoes doing in your garden? I remember you were going to plant those tomatoes right before I left for Minnesota, please let me know how they’re doing.
Well, I hope you enjoy the rest of your day or evening. For now I have to get to class but wanted to let you know I’m thinking of you and look forward to staying in touch.
