“Stranger Things” have happened to the real estate market over the past couple of years.
For one, the COVID-19 pandemic turned the market upside-down, with houses selling for astronomical prices in 2020 and 2021 (sometimes sight unseen) as many people chose to upgrade where they were hunkering down. Now the real-estate sector is adjusting to rising mortgage rates, recession fears and a strong job market — although some areas, like NYC, are in the midst of an unpredictable “tornado market.”
And now another iconic home featured on the Netflix

hit “Stranger Things” is on the market — and for a cool $1.5 million.
The creepy Victorian “Creel House” featured in Season 4, which saw the highest one-week total of streaming viewership when “Stranger Things” dropped on the streaming service over the summer, is an actual 140-year-old mansion on a one-acre lot in Rome, Ga. It boasts five or six grand bedrooms, five bathrooms, a guest house, formal dining room and parlor — as well as quirky touches like an antique wall safe and a cast-iron urinal.
Yes, cast-iron urinal, which the listing describes as “the most beautiful [and quite possibly only] cast iron urinal you’ll ever see.”
The listing at 906 E 2nd Ave. is also certainly leaning into its “Stranger Things” connection, with the brokerage Toles, Temple & Wright writing: “You will recognize much of what has been prominently featured in the show’s fourth season, including: the majestic formal dining room where telekinesis is no longer practiced during meals; an adjoining parlor, perfect for playing Dungeons and Dragons; and a living room ideal for hosting meetings of the Hellfire Club.”
The palatial East Rome Historic District residence, which was built in 1882, would be familiar to fans of the show after standing in for a haunted Victorian mansion with a dark past. Some of the most climactic events in the Season 4 finale happened in the attic. (The attic, the realtors note, is more of an “unfinished third floor” with its own staircase — and could be expanded into additional suites for the home’s next chapter.) As for the demon Vecna, who made that attic his headquarters on the Netflix show: “Not to worry, the previous resident of the third floor has since been relocated by a single exterminator — we think,” the listing says.
It last sold for $350,000 in 2019, according to Zillow, after it had been a bed and breakfast called The Claremont House — but that was before the current owners restored the home to its original grandeur, and Netflix made the mansion a star.
This isn’t the only “Stranger Things” property to hit the market this year. In September, the Fayetteville, Ga. ranch-style home used as the Byers house for the first three seasons of “Stranger Things” also hit the market for $300,000. This listing was much more of a fixer-upper than the Creel House — but it’s already been bought, and is reportedly being turned into a “Stranger Things”-themed Airbnb

Although to be fair, the New Mexico house that was used to portray the Byers’ new California home in Season 4 has also been listed as an Airbnb. Guests can rent the tri-level four bedroom, four bathroom, 4,000-square-foot residence for $371 a night.
