In the current scenario, no business can prosper without its presence on the Internet. In this Internet era, every business; be it small-local business or large-multinationals need to maintain their own website through which they sell or service their customers. If anyone says they have no presence over web and yet want to prosper in this Internet era, they have to go back to their drawing board to re-draw their business strategy.
Most of the consumers visit the web and search the products or services which they want to buy before actually deciding their products. Mostly the search is done using Google.com, Bing.com and Ask.com. As per research, it is found that 73% people do not go beyond page 2 of the results shown on their Google search and 93% people do not go beyond page 3 of the Google search results.
If we take a closer look at the Google search returns – the first 3 to 4 links on the top of each Google result page are the sponsored links. These are the advertised links or companies which subscribe to Google to display their links as sponsored links. These links are always shown at the top of the page whenever a related search is performed. The remaining 10 links on each page display non-sponsored or organic links i.e. the links which Google provides as search results based on the key words provided for the search. It is observed that 85% people do not tend to click the sponsored links. Web pages which are displayed at the top of the non-sponsored links on the search result page have maximum chances of getting clicked by the users. Therefore, it is required that your web page is displayed within top 20 – 30 results on the Google search result page to draw maximum attention of the consumers. Herein lays the importance of search engine optimization.
