From the time immemorial, books have been a constant source of knowledge. They are the best friend of a man and serve as his constant companion during loneliness. Today, with the evolution of technology one has to no longer visit the library to search or read his or her favourite books. It is available online and can be downloaded anytime from the internet.

Among the various types of engineering books one can read the Six Sigma Books. Now, let us understand what Six Sigma is. It is a process that is implied by most of the organisations in order to reduce the number of defects in their manufacturing process. If we go by the definition, then we can say that six sigma is a process where 99.99% of the manufactured goods should be free of defects. Today, this process is used in all type of industries including manufacturing and textile.

Six Sigma Books in India were introduced by leading publishers in order to give Indian students a deep understanding of the principles applied in Six sigma. Many executives as well as businessmen have been benefited by reading these books. There are various Six Sigma Books available today including books like Six Sigma for shop floor and the six sigma journey from Art to science.

The implementation of the six sigma process dates back to 1985 when Motorola adapted this technique to improve their production process. It became more popular after General Electric started applying it in the year 1995. Normally, this process is applied in those manufacturing processes that require a significant improvement in the production process. In the later period this process was adapted by so many organisations that it was introduced as part of the curriculum in many business schools.

To give an example from India, the Dabbawalas at Mumbai applies the principle of Six Sigma where they take the lunch boxes from the homes of the office workers in the morning, deliver them at the office and returns them back to the home. In the year 2005 Harvard Business School did a research on the Dabbawalas and found out that they commit only one mistake in delivering every six million lunch boxes. This shows that how effective is the use of Six sigma in today’s world.

The principles of six sigma has not only confined itself to the industries but also has found its usage in the accounting firms. It helps to reduce the number of false journal entries and reduce the number of errors in the financial statements.

Six Sigma is applied using two methodologies. One is the DMAIC process and the other being DMADV process. As far as the DMAIC is concerned, it is mainly applied in those manufacturing process where the desired output cannot be achieved where as DMADV is mainly applied to make new products. Six sigma provides a dual benefit one to the organisation and other to an individual. In case of an organisation it saves the bottom line costs by 5% to 20%. It also reduces the time of cycling process by maintaining a world class standard of a product. An individual gains a lot of knowledge and can also sharpen his or her skills.
