Representatives of tech giant Google admitted before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology that the company’s employees listen to recordings of customer conversations through the Google Assistant. In fact, Google’s representatives appeared before the Parliament’s IT Committee regarding the security of customers and said this.

According to BusinessToday, sources on the committee told Google that Google employees listen when Google users say “Ok, Google” to the artificial intelligence-powered Google Assistant.

BJP MP from Godda seat Nishikant Dubey asked Google’s representative about this, in response to which Google admitted that many times users record their conversations even if they do not call the virtual assistant. According to India Today sources, the company has told the committee that during this time sensitive matters are not heard, it is a normal conversation and it is recorded.

However, the company did not clarify how it decides what is sensitive and which is not. According to the committee, this matter has been taken seriously and it has been considered as a violation of the right to privacy. Committee chairman Shashi Tharoor will prepare the final report and give his recommendations to the government.
