Bankman-Fried says he’s now willing to testify to House committee

Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder and former chief executive of bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX, on Friday changed his position and said he was willing to testify in front of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee.

In a tweet to Maxine Waters, the California Democrat who heads the committee, Bankman-Fried said he would testify even though he doesn’t have access to company records.

Bankman-Fried has engaged in a media tour since the collapse of FTX — in what he says is against the advice of his own lawyers — as he tries to make the case that he did not deliberately commit fraud.

He told The Wall Street Journal, for instance, that he cannot account for the billions of dollars sent from FTX to the trading firm Alameda that he owns.
